Background
West London Bangladesh Welfare Association (WLBWA) was started in 1975 by a group of restauranteurs and students to assist newly arrived and established Bangladeshi people living West London. The founders of WLBWA were concerned by the extent of the language and cultural barriers amongst Bangladeshi communities and the impact of these barriers of their access onto education, employment, public services and community life. WLBWA also indentified the immense need for appropriate information, advice and language support for newly arrived immigrants.
WLBWA quickly became and remains today a cross-borough organisation meeting the specific needs of Bangladeshi communities living in Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hounslow, Hillingdon, Kingston-Upon-Thames, Richmond which as minority communities experience marginalisation and exclusion.
